live look at emeryville where it's raining this morning. it will taper a little this afternoon ahead of next big storm that could cause flooding, even mudslides. >> this is not to be the morning to be in a hurry. several wind advisories and couple spinouts. we'll have a complete traffic report coming up. >> i'm amy hollyfield live at berkeley high school where students will soon have a hot line they can report crime. this after three arrests yesterday. i'll have details coming up. >> and live at the federal courthouse, barry bonds trial continues today. we'll be hearing from a former

friend, current enemy of barry bonds, a recording that he made enough to convict bonds? >> eric: that is greg anderson who was on the stand yesterday. not the gentleman who is going to testify today. i'm eric thomas. >> kristen: i'm kristen sze. we're in a series of storms. very wet and windy and treacherous. >> eric: mike is here with a look at the forecast and tomorrow is going to be wetter? >> exactly. we're dealing with 40 mile-an-hour winds in san jose. 32 at sfo. 24 in hayward to 38 in santa rosa and 18 in livermore. everybody else 10 or below. so watch out. it is gusty this morning and with the slickness on the streets, it is making it for a tough go traveling around. let's talk about what is happening. let's first start around the

entire bay. you can see the back edge of the steadier rain to start to move in which is good news for that are going to leave later. up in the north bay, late rain. around the bay itself, moderate rain is showing up and santa cruz mountains and all over santa clara valley right now. let's talk about traffic. >> we do have wind advisories for the bay bridge, san mateo bridge and richmond-san rafael bridge. we have ponding on the roadways and reports of flooding eastbound 80 heading out of san francisco. slow lane flooded as you approach the tolls, as well. sig alert due to flooding. stinson beach. off-ramp closed right now and will remain closed until about noon today. >> kristen: geologists say it's going to take weeks to clear a

rockslide in santa cruz county. they pitched to clear a space to get cars in and out of the area. authorities have suggested they find housing someplace else. the massive slide could get worse as rain continues through this week. they'll be meeting at 4:00 at the sheriffs' communication center to talk to residents about the next step. >> eric: berkeley school district says it will tighten spergs at berkeley high after the arrest of three students for gun related crimes and in one case, a gun went off in school. amy? >> reporter: some are wondering is it time for metal detectors. some are calling this an alarming trend. latest incident happened yesterday afternoon. there were two separate incidents, a gun went off in the

bathroom. two students were arrested a short time later. then later in the day, a third student was arrested after police received an anonymous tip that a student had a gun. that gun wasn't loaded. they are working to set up a hot line where students can report crimes. >> the fact we are a high performing school, it makes it seem out of place. what we're taking from this, guns on campus is everybody's problem. nobody is immune to this type of danger. >> no one was hurt. two of the boys who were arrested were 15 and 16 years old and had he face one year expulsion and felony charges. there is month indication that the boys brought the guns to campus with the intent to specifically hurt something. >> kristen: day three of barry bonds' perjury trial and all eyes will oblong time and

business partner who turned against the home run king to testify against the prosecution. terry mcsweeney is live at the federal courthouse. >> reporter: bonds and steve hopkins were friends and business partners but bonds tried to get hopkins arrested for selling fake memorabilia. he responded by making a recording of bonds and anderson and they say that proves injecting bonds with steroids. first, let's take a man that won't be testifying. greg anderson is behind bars after refusing to testify against his friend. they've been friends since they've been kids. he is not just trying to protect bonds. dean johnson there is another reason not to testify. >> if i were one of his defense attorneys, i would be pointing a

finger at greg anderson, this is the man that slipped steroids to bonds, greg anderson doesn't want to have that label placed on him. >> first on the stand will be the former irs agent says bonds materially interfered with his investigation of steroids and baseball. bonds' attorney allen ruby talked about a prosecution witness saying that the bitterness of these people, hopkins and others towards barry was very perfect vacation i have -- pervasive. he gets to examine him and hopkins and then mr. ruby will take him on. bonds are four counts of lying to a grand jury and one count of obstruction of justice. >> eric: governor jerry brown is

considering putting a measure on the november ballot to extend a series of tax increases. if he can't meet the deadline for a june election. so far republican lawmakers have refused to give him the two-thirds majority to put the tax measure on the june ballot. the sacramento bee reports that the governor is continuing to bargain with the gop. governor needs two republicans in each house to break ranks in order to hold the june election. >> kristen: california state university system have announced budget cuts. enrollment will be dropped by 10,000 students. acceptance letters have are a gone out. every campus will be asked to reduce its budget for a total of $280 million in saving and that means layoffs are likely. they have already announced a 10% tuition hike in september

san pablo bay, heavier cells moving through the south bay. through the sunol grade and into the tri-valley, temperatures are pretty mild and that is why the rain is so heavy and why you'll find ponding on the roadway. this afternoon, mid to upper 50s. heaviest and steadiest rain is behind us or will be behind us by about 9:00. showers in the forecast during the afternoon hours. heavier rain coming comes in tonight through tomorrow. that is where we can see more mudslides, hail and even flooding. >> to give you an idea, video of a large puddle right near the embarcadero about 25 feet around deep water. not the morning to be in a rush. let's get a live picture of the san mateo bridge, a wind advisory in effect for the san mateo bridge, the richmond-san rafael bridge and bay bridge. both hands on the wheel. allow extra time and if you are thinking of heading to the

chicago because of the rain. show you what is going on. there sat big mud puddle or the growing lake in the embarcadero. the rain is still coming down. take a tour and see some of the yellows and oranges, that is moderate amounts of rain falling over the south bay into the santa cruz mountains and into the diablo range and morgan hill and down to gilroy. one of the strongest from alameda, oakland, berkeley, richmond, hercules, pinole, and it keeps going farther to the north, american canyon up 29 to napa and st. helena and out to 37. you'll see definitely heavier rain there. here is a look at the back edge of the steadier rain, coming through, give it about an hour, hour and a half and then we'll deal with scattered showers and it won't be as nearly as wet or treacherous this afternoon.

temperatures upper 40s to low 50s. showers, we'll have those and possibility, breezy and cooler than average. next system comes in tomorrow. flooding likely. remember we have those flash flood advisories starting at midnight tonight through 4:00 tomorrow afternoon for the santa cruz mountains. flash flooding means it's going to happen instantly so you need to be prepared to move quick. pretty much temperatures in the mid to upper 50s. monterey bay, inland, upper 50s to low 60s. temperatures here well below average. tonight look for temperatures in the mid to a few upper 40s. here is a look what is going to trigger the showers the next couple of hours. cold front has it moves through. winds are gusting around 25-40 miles per hour. those will start to relax a little bit this afternoon.

only to pick up again tonight when the strong are system starts to roll on down. let's give you a time frame. heavier rain moving through. by into than noon it becomes more scattered in nature. once we get to midnight through 4:00, a little bit of a lull and then 7:00 in the morning, those scattered thunderstorms, brief heavy rain and also small hail. by noon they are already exiting the south bay leaving us with a scattered showers and colder air. that will be the trend through friday, scattered showers with colder upper elevation snow. rainfall amounts around one to two inches around the bay and up to 4 inches in our mountains. once we get past saturday, look at the drying trend, for sunday, monday and tuesday, temperatures are still below average but we see a lot low to mid-50s. good morning. you can expect a wait bay bridge

president obama is leaving central america cutting short of tour that has been dominated by news from the military action in libya. he went to el salvador but he left so he could leave a few hours earlier. president five day tour is meant to reestablish leadership in that region. these traveled to countries that have under gone political transformation over the past decade. >> n.f.l. owners are holding a meeting in new orleans even though there is a lockout. yesterday they voted to change the league's kick off rule. kickoffs will be moved up five yards from the 35 yard line producing chance for prolific kick return irs. more severe injuries happen on kickoffs. it will result in 5-15% more

good morning, a live look at the embarcadero where we have a little bit of flooding. that is going to be the big story tomorrow. the flooding that comes in, the strong thunderstorms with hail and even some gusty winds. we're going to talk about a big storm system. >> several wind advisories and flooding throughout the bay area. all that coming up. >> kristen: wet weather will complicate efforts to clean up a rock slide. engineers say it will take weeks to reopen a road. >> reporter: i'm a amy hollyfield live at berkeley high school, school officials are trying to get a handle on the number of guns here. they found two here just yet. >> eric: gun violence claimed lives, two men are killed as

they sat on a porch of their home. get that umbrella out. i'm eric thomas. >> kristen: i'm kristen sze. too bad we can't telecommute. gusty rain and driving the roads. >> as mike said. that is warmup for tomorrow. most of us would be satisfied with today's storm, but there is more on the way. >> there really is. big story, so far, the gusty winds that come with it. these gusts are coming out of the east up to 35 miles an hour. hayward, 31. 33 in oakland. sfo is calm down to 14 miles per hour while santa rosa up around 30. fairfield at 32. so you have the white knuckle morning as driving those high profile vehicles over the bridges where the winds are faster. you can see everybody getting rain. a little calmer up in the north

bay and around the bay we don't see as many yellows and oranges as we do around the santa cruz mountains. watch out for ponding on the roadways here. heaviest rain is moving right through now. it will taper during the morning commute. more storms or the way. we do have a new accident. injury crash in daly city. northbound 280 past hickory boulevard. two right lanes blocked. car facing the wrong way. reports of debris throughout the roadway due to the washer there. if you are taking mass transit, great day to do it. no delays. bart on time and you can skip those wet roadways. >> kristen: security will be stepped up at a east bay high school after three students were arrested for bringing guns to school one which went off. amy hollyfield is live at

berkeley high school with the latest. >> reporter: there is talk of change here at berkeley high school. some are wondering if it's time for metal detectors. the boys yesterday got caught because the gun went off in the bathroom by accident. no one was hurt. the witnesses told police that helped identify them and arrest them. then a tip came in, police located him. he was armed and the gun wasn't loaded. he was also arrested. >> we don't have an indication the weapon was brought with the specific intent to cause harm anybody. >> it may be uncomfortable for some of the viewers to hear we are quite certain there are weapons in schools everyday we're not aware of. >> reporter: there have been five guns confiscated from the berkeley high school campus in the last three months. that has everyone talking about an alarming trend and possible

change. there will be more security here today. officials are also working to set up an anonymous tip line so students can report guns on campus or any other crimes going on. the boys that were arrested are 15 and 16-year-old. they face a year expulsion and felony charges. >> eric: oakland police are on the hunt for a gunman who killed two men and a dog sitting on a porch in oakland. it happened around 8:00 last night. investigators say the shots were fired from across the street and no suspect description was immediately available. police are still trying to determine a motive. >> kristen: barry bonds former business partner steve hopkins is scheduled to trial. bonds former trainer greg anderson is back in jail after refusing to testify again yesterday. the judge found anderson in contempt and ordered him to stay

in jail until he agrees to testify or until the trial is over. bonds is accused of lying to a federal grand jury. san francisco police say they did not find anything out of the ordinary after searching a philippine plane last night. a threatening call was made to the airlines. they landed last night and taking that taken to a remote area and all 337 passengers and 20 crew members were evacuated. police say the plane was not threatened directly but the airlines still asked them to search the aircraft. they searched the plane and among the passengers, was arnel pineada the lead singer of journey. >> geologists will say it will take weeks to clear a rockslide. they suggested residents live

someplace else. neighbors cleared some access. lisa argen reports. >> residents of nelson road are tired of being trapped behind this wall of rocks. they built their own road so they can move their cars out. >> it's got people who had a car up there but the car out here it helped them, they got their cars out. >> it got those in charge of dealing with this thinking about a plan "b" now, that they know clearing the slide will be a massive undertaking. >> it's a large slide. it's a big problem. so the first priority will try to get an alternate road in. >> that temporary road will link nelson to the road residents built right away. >> walking over the rock pile. >> there is no real way in for ambulances and fire trucks and a handful of people are still

without power. a geologist will make recommendations and later today at around 4:00, residents can find out about next step that will take place on nelson road at the sheriffs communication center. >> kristen: a potential levee break is posing a flood threat. it runs along a communities verona and nicholas. they put sandbags on plastic shooting to help the crack. they are keeping careful watch on the situation. so far no evacuations but with all that rain coming our way. >> eric: today is just the warmup. and then it will be quite a warmup. >> we're seeing some of the heavier rain and ponding on the roadways and megan says more action is developing.

you can see a lot of colors on here. storm warning in sierra. heading that way but let's bring it back home. i want to focus in on the green. no the north bay that is a flash flood watch. it starts at midnight, lasts through 4:00 tomorrow afternoon. same thing for the santa cruz mountains. we're going to see a lot of runoff. that is why it's a flash flood watch as you head through solano county, some of the creeks and smaller rivers is going to flood the next several days. that is why you are under a flood watch. a it's a slower event as the creeks and rivers rise causing flash flooding. you can see the storms moving through. hf yest ones in the east bay and south bay right now. temperatures are running in to the mid to upper 40s. you can see a little bit of a break in the steadier rain but we'll get scattered showers, even some thunderstorms today. some of those thunderstorms could contain brief heavy rain

attacks were effective. latest coming up at 6:00. >> kristen: new warning, japanese government is telling parents not to allow babies to drink tap water in tokyo. they are taking new protective measures against food exports from japan. >> the latest results that tap water is more than twice the recommended limit for babies. they are warning parents to refrain from using tap water to mix formula for their infants. it contains radioactive iodine which can cause thigh lloyd cancer but officials say the tap water does not pose any immediate risks for adults. it has also contaminated food supply including spinach and other greens. they are halting other produce from that area of japan

including seafood. >> the levels, the tap water here in tokyo. please stay calm as we try to consume water wisely. >> reporter: meanwhile, black smoke is billowing from unit 3 prompting a new evacuation. officials don't know the reason for the black smoke. it comes hours after the plant restored circuits. they were hoping to restore power because they feared that would cause fire to the damaged equipment. death toll from the earthquake is over 9400 with nearly 15,000 still missing. >> eric: at the university of san francisco last night people gathered to pray for japan. ♪ >> eric: they lit candles to

honor those affected by the earthquake and tsunami. a japanese studies program that partners with universities in japan. they recorded video messages to their counterparts in japan and vowed to help with the recovery in any way they can. >> kristen: megan is checking out reports. mike, how hard is that rain coming down? >> probably quarter to a third of an inch an hour so they are moving about 30 miles an hour. be careful out there. it's going to be worse tomorrow. ground is saturated and can't hold anymore. so we're going to get rapid runoff and cause flash flooding, that is different than flooding itself is when the runoff makes it to the streams and creeks and smaller rivers a couple of hours later and then causes flooding. that is difference between our

flash flood watches is the flood watches out in the central valley. you can see the embarcadero that is wet. look at the 24-hour rainfall totals. nearly two-thirds of an inch in santa rosa and petaluma. three-quarters in mill valley. nearly a third in piedmont and san francisco. as you expect in the south bay, .07 in san jose. dublin falling right behind. it's moving through the south bay and you can see a line developing as the cold front is pushing through. so the winds right now probably about as fast as they are going to get. 30-40 mile-an-hour gusts and temperatures are filed. monterey bay, seeing the same situation play out. we will have scattered showers and thunderstorms possible. it will be breezy within those storms and cooler today, small hail is possible. heavier rain tomorrow, flooding likely, rock slides and even possible power outages.

if you are tired of this weather drying trend sunday through next week. for today, you need the wet weather gear again. around the monterey bay and inland, same situation playing out right now. upper 50s to near 60s. tonight waking be in the 40s with the rain becoming more showery in nature earlier and then the heavier rain moves in tomorrow morning commute. number one moving through, second one on its heels. stronger storm system, the one that will bring us more damaging weather tomorrow. let's put night motion, here is the forecast, 7:00 through noon, you can see the heavier rain moving on, scattered showers that will taper through the evening thundershowers hours but look what happens at 6:00 to 7:00 tomorrow morning, that is when the thunderstorms come in with the heavier rain and hail and potential for more flooding. down tha will last through the

lunch hour and scattered showers and mountain snows through friday morning and then into friday afternoon. rainfall totals still thinking about one to two inches around the bay and three to five inches in the mountains. accu-weather five-day forecast, rain likely for saturday. sunday, monday and tuesday looking much drier. good morning. to say roadways are wet would be an understatement. we have flooding throughout the bay area. daly city, we have a sig alert due to an injury crash, two right lanes are blocked and remain blocked for at least another hour. another problem spot, 280 at 101 interchange in san francisco. we have reports of heavy flows in both directions and a crash northbound 101 at 280 blocking the right lane. expected delays heading through
